The AI-controlled fully automated robot dentist developed by Perceptive in Boston has successfully completed an entire dental surgery for human patients for the first time, operating eight times faster than human doctors. This innovative technology utilizes a handheld 3D volumetric scanner and optical coherence tomography to create a three-dimensional model of the mouth, avoiding X-ray radiation, and can accurately detect 90% of cavities. The robot discusses treatment plans with the patient and human doctors before the surgery, then takes over, planning and swiftly executing the surgical process. The first specialized field is preparing for dental crowns, which typically takes two hours.
